Last weekend I had the pleasure of sampling quite possibly the coolest hipster experience that Melbourne has to offer. This delight came in the form of Hike and Seek Tours, a quirky day trip down the Great Ocean Road.
I’ve done trips down the Great Ocean Road before and was blown away with the views, the hidden gems and the fresh coastal air. But my previous experiences have always lacked in personality. This is where Hike and Seek set a bar above the rest, and here’s why.
VW Kombi Van
Hipster accessory numero uno. There’s no denying that a road trip in a VW leads to a massive tick on ones bucket list—the gorgeous earthy green color of the van, the beautifully crafted interiors and the epic Hike and Seek playlist that fills your ears with the ultimate feel good tunes.
The happy couple and owners of your cool ride, Mette and James, are on hand to make sure you have the best day possible. They’re pretty knowledgeable on the area and give you a really personal experience. You’re soon on a road trip with friends, not tour guides! Because the vans can only hold a maximum of eight people, you’ll all become friends and socialize together. If you’re a solo traveller—no worries, you’ll have new pals before you know it!
What’s more on-trend than being vegan? The lunch was delicious, refreshing and super filling—even my pig of a boyfriend (who normally turns his nose up if he can’t see meat) loved it! Coffee’s with coconut milk, green tea and even raw vegan cakes. Hike and Seek go all out with the little touches so watch out for the cutest coffee cups ever!
Picnic on the Beach
This part of the trip is of course weather-permitting, but luckily we went on a glorious, crisp winter day. Our lunch was served on gorgeous lay-day furnishings with a super cute beach umbrella. Hike and Seek likes to support Australian businesses and so they have the coolest furnishings that you can buy, too! As your sitting on the beach enjoying your delicious vegan treats, you can hear the waves crashing. Such an idyllic spot!
Although the road trip is so special, of course the reason for going is to see the sights along the Great Ocean Road. Each tour can be completely different as there are so many little walking tracks and different places to explore. We went on a short hike to a huge waterfall, which is something you just don’t do on the huge scale sightseeing tours. See the Twelve Apostles, Thunder Caves, Gibson’s Steps, Apollo Bay and Lochard Gorge in one single day! Phew!
